Our Story

Every good story has a beginning… ours is love; for each other, for food, for wine and for hospitality.

THROWBACK TO 2012

It All Started With A Little Yellow Van

Only a short year after meeting, in a Toronto Oyster House of all places, Mike and Kat relocated to Mike’s hometown of Niagara Falls without a map but a goal in mind. They began shucking oysters and grilling seafood under just about any event tent they could find. With a one of a kind “Shuck Truck” named Pearl, a 1974 Volkswagen van, the couple quickly became widely known and even anticipated at wineries, concerts, farmers markets and festivals of all sorts.

2012 seemed to be a bookmark year for Niagara with an influx of new wineries, breweries, distilleries and new events creating a perfect launch pad for Mike and Kat’s unique product, skill and approach. Welcomed by the culinary community, they were quickly embedded into the collaborative and supportive food scene that only Niagara can boast. Tide & Vine became synonymous with Niagara culinary excellence alongside some of the region’s most reputable culinary outfits.

FAST FORWARD TO 2014

Tide & Vine Opens with a 24-Seat Restaurant

Rosemary@4x
With a budding wholesale business, catering and collaborative partnerships, 2014 brought big changes with the addition of Niagara’s first Oyster House with 24 seats and a tiny kitchen.

Taking over a small pizza take out joint in the north end of Niagara Falls, Tide & Vine found a brick and mortar location to welcome not only the discerning foodies of that time but the experience seeking travelers visiting one of the natural wonders of the world; Niagara Falls.

Building a fanbase of regulars and hosting industry comrades, Mike and Kat began to build a team of like minded ambassadors with an unwavering focus on quality, authenticity and an unforgettable guest experience.
MORE EXPANSION IN 2023

The Fish Market

Tide & Vine has since grown to a 130 seat restaurant including a large patio and a “chef-driven fish market”. Tide & Vine wholesale provides responsibly sourced seafood to restaurants across the region and into the rest of Southern Ontario.

While you may not find Tide & Vine shucking oysters at farmers markets today you will still find them at regional events and often found at large parties and celebrations; and you might just catch a glimpse of the Shuck Truck, with Mike & Kat up front and their young family waving from the back.

OUR TEAM

A Strong Community Thrives on Eachother

Tide & Vine has been continually blessed with a team that shares an enthusiastic hunger to not just work in a rewarding atmosphere but to be a part of something unique and bigger than just a job. Tide & Vine is a place for people to grow in their role, their career and as a person.

It’s not just competitive compensation and benefit packages that makes Tide & Vine a great place to work. We believe that raising standards, ongoing coaching and training, room for advancement and competitive employment compensation adds dignity to an often belittled profession. It’s our goal that our team enjoys their time with us just as much as our guests do.

Employment is one of the most important aspects of our lives and where we spend about 25 percent of our time each week; it should be challenging, rewarding, offer growth and be suited to our God given gifts. We believe it must be a great fit for both the employer and the employee. We believe in a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work.

Outstanding seafood shack in Niagara Falls away from the honky tonk of Clinton Hill. Seafood chowder like no other and a Lobster Roll on par with Lunch in the Hamptons and Legal Seafoods in Boston. The owner is pure Canadian- read couldnt be any friendlier and helpful!

The $2 oysters on Monday nights is what drew us in but the live music, comfortable setting, friendly service and great food is why we stayed. We wanted to find a place off the beaten path in Niagara Falls to have an experience that we wouldn’t have at one of the many chain restaurants throughout the downtown area. The Tide and Vine was exactly what we were looking for. Tucker away in an unassuming strip mall, it is a very welcoming and lively atmosphere with a friendly host. The live music on a Monday night was a pleasant surprise and the music selection was perfect (for us) with acoustic guitar versions of 80’s and 90’s classics. The oysters were good but I would have preferred the vingette to be served in a dish to be able to scoop it onto the oyster with the little chunks of onion (rather than a sauce bottle). The assortment of hot sauces was nice and the one with turmeric was a nice surprise. Next was the mussels and they were perfect. The sauce was simple but delicious and the bread was nice to soak up the leftovers. Finally there was the lobster roll and it was also very nicely prepared with large chunks of lobster. My only regret was not having room for the chowder.

This was the best experience I had while visiting NF Canada. The oysters were the best I have had in years! The service was fantastic. Tristan and I think Carla? were personable, professional, friendly and fun! I apologize if I got the waitresses name incorrect, I should have written the review sooner. I had oysters, a special of crispy fried scallop Po'Boy with a brussel sprout salad and a virgin bloody Mary. Everything and I mean everything was top notch. This place deserves 10 stars. Creative chef who also cares about presentation. I will be back!!!!

If you want a lobster roll- hot or cold and the best steak tartare around look no further than this gem!! We took a sporadic trip over the Canadian border and stumbled upon this place. The seafood soup was to die for and the service was impeccable! Our toddler doesn’t really like seafood so we ordered a veggie plate for him and they gave us all cucumbers because we mentioned he really likes them! That was such a sweet gesture. Don’t pass by this place if you are in the area!

This is our third time visiting Tide and Vine, and it never disappoints. We live about an hour away an Mississauga, but every time we come to Niagara, stopping here is a must. We ordered The Walrus, and it was absolutely amazing. A huge shoutout to our server, Tristan, who was fantastic and really elevated the entire experience. The service is here is top quality! Highly recommend! It's the simple things, done well! 5 stars A++++

So good! We visited for a special occassion and got a house ceasar, the siren tower, and extra oysters! All the food was delicious and great quality, and service was good. Price is expensive but worth it considering location and quality. The house sauces were very good and it was worth it to get enough oysters to try them all. Will definitely return to try the mussels and more oysters during happy hour!
